The conference explores the more cerebral aspect of the National Folk Festival, with presentations, lectures and activities looking at the rich vein of folklore. In 2010 it will be held on the folklorically appropriate date of Thursday, April 1 at the National Library of Australia.
The Organising Committee are seeking expressions of interest from people interested in giving a presentation on an aspect of folklore. For more information see the National Folklore Conference webpage.
The Festival website has been updated with information for the 2010 Festival.
Over 900 applications have been received for the 2010 National Folk Festival, a 10% increase from the previous year.
There has been a terrific response from Tasmania with a whopping 700% increase in applications.
Managing Director of the Festival, Jared Wilkins, said “The strength of the applications has been in the diverse selection of music, song, spoken word and dance being offered. Such a response indicates the way in which this Festival is viewed and bodes for an amazing National that should not be missed.”
Artistic Director, Dave O’Neill, now faces a large challenge of going through all the applications while knowing there are only 200 available performance spots.
It takes some time to review all the applications and to go through the assessment process. The Festival does this as quickly as possible and aims to notify all artists in writing by December of the status of their application.
