Performers

What sort of acts?

The Festival has an extensive program that covers performance and workshops in music, dance, spoken word, theatre and street theatre as well as craft workshops. The Festival operates a special Kids Festival and a Youth Venue. We appreciate applications for workshops and performances in both of these venues.

We accept applications from professional and amateur artists from anywhere. We encourage artists from the current feature state to apply as we like to showcase everything that part of the country has to offer.

What sort of venues?

There are 23 venues at the Festival, some large enough to seat over 1500 and some small enough for an intimate group of 15.

The Festival operates two Blackboard venues that are programmed on a daily basis and are open to anyone attending the event. You just need to sign up at the appointed time to be allocated a performance time.

Performers and the GST

Please do not include GST in your requested fee. We will calculate any tax if applicable.

Australian tax laws require that Australian performers nominate whether they are one of the following:

  1. Professional individual performers or groups who/which earn more that $75,000 a year. You must have an ABN and be registered for GST or the Festival is required to deduct 48.5% tax from the payment.
  2. Professional individual performers or groups who/which earn less than $75,000 a year. You will need an ABN or the Festival will deduct 48.5% tax from the payment. However you don’t need to be registered for the GST.
  3. A Hobbyist, who performs only a few times a year and receives little or no income from performing. If you are a Hobbyist, you need to fill out and include with your invoice a Statement of Supplier form from the ATO in order to be paid. It is important to note that a member of APRA can not be considered a Hobbyist.

The onus is on the performer to satisfy the tax requirements or the Festival will apply the withholding tax.
