2010 National Folk School
The National Folk School runs for three days (Tuesday 30th, Wednesday 31st, Thursday 1st), prior to the Festival. These classes are a great opportunity for intensive training with outstanding musicians. Instrument classes are not open to beginners, but are strictly for intermediate to advanced players. (You need to be able to perform a solo piece in front of an audience.) If you have any doubts as to your suitability for a particular class, please ring the Festival Office on 02 6262 4792 and discuss this with the Artistic Director.
There will be two sessions per day. 10:am - 12:pm, then 1:30 -3:30.

The Teachers
Paddy Keenan – Uilleann Pipes
A founding member of the legendary Bothy Band, Paddy has been called “the piper’s piper”, “the most exciting
traditional musician in the world”, and “the Jimi Hendrix of the pipes”. Generally acknowledged as the most
accomplished uilleann piper performing today.
Beppe Gambetta – Guitar
A leading exponent of Flatpicking Guitar, Beppe has played and recorded with many of the masters of the genre. Best known for his duo work with guitar virtuoso Dan Crary, Beppe will teach the finer points of this wonderful style.
Kristina Olsen – Songwriting
Back by popular demand, Kristina Olsen’s songwriting workshops are always one of the most sort-after classes
whenever we are lucky enough to have her at the National. Book early as places are limited.
Charlie Walden – Old-Time and Texas Fiddling
Charlie Walden, Missouri’s great old-time, bluegrass and Texas swing fiddler teaches Southern contest fiddling.
Charlie learnt directly from the old Missouri fiddlers and carries on the tradition.
Mike Bing – Bluegrass Mandolin
A member of the Bing Brothers Band, his clean, driving style is the result of influences such as the Hammons
Family and Frank George. An experienced teacher, Mike will be sharing his style and knowledge of bluegrass tunes.
Ruairi McGorman – Irish Fiddle
A wonderful young Irish fiddle teacher, Ruairi has taught fiddle at the prestigious Pipers Club in Dublin. He also tutored
a number of Ceilí bands, and has won many titles at the “All Ireland Fleadh” competitions.
